What Is Luxury Mental Health Treatment?

The term “luxury mental health treatment” typically refers to residential care in an exclusive environment that prioritizes patient comfort and privacy, customized service, and quality care.

Though services and amenities can vary from one provider to the next, common elements of luxury mental health treatment in Tennessee or elsewhere include:

  • Serene location
  • Warm and inviting treatment spaces
  • Private rooms for each client
  • Chef-prepared meals
  • Close personal attention
  • Low client-to-staff ratio
  • Personalized treatment planning
  • Multiple evidence-based therapies
  • Holistic and experiential therapies

How Does Luxury Treatment Differ from Standard Care?

Differences between luxury mental health treatment and a more standard approach to care can include:

  • Location: Luxury treatment is more likely to occur in desirable locations such as beachside communities or spacious wilderness properties.
  • Enrollment: To ensure that all clients receive close personal attention, luxury mental health treatment programs typically have a lower maximum enrollment.
  • Environment: Comfort is usually of greater concern when designing client bedrooms, treatment spaces, and common areas for luxury treatment programs.
  • Scope of services: Luxury mental health treatment programs may provide a wider array of therapies and a greater number of leisure activities than a standard program can offer.
  • Treatment teams: A luxury program may be better able to attract and retain more experienced or accomplished treatment professionals. And, as alluded to earlier, the number of professionals for every client will likely be larger in a luxury program than in a standard residential environment.
  • Support staff: Luxury mental health treatment programs are more likely to offer the services of maids, chefs, personal trainers, masseuses, and other support personnel.

Do Luxury Treatment Centers Only Offer Residential Care?

As noted at the outset of today’s post, luxury mental health treatment typically refers to residential programs. But many luxury centers offer additional levels of care to ensure that they are best prepared to meet the full scope of each client’s unique needs.

These additional levels may include:

  • Partial hospitalization program (PHP) – Treatment in a PHP is similar to what clients receive at the residential level. A typical day often includes about six or seven hours of care, with clients taking part in a variety of therapies and support services. However, unlike in a residential program, PHP clients only need to be at the treatment center when they are receiving care. In the evenings or on the weekends, they can return to their home or to an alternative supported residence.
  • Intensive outpatient programs – At the IOP level, clients usually receive three or four hours of care per day, with some centers offering the option of attending treatment two to five days per week. Due to this more limited schedule, group therapy is typically the main mode of care, though many centers also offer a range of additional services.
  • Outpatient program (OP) – Outpatient programs offer maximum flexibility, with clients usually attending one or two treatment sessions per week. Depending on client need and the parameters of the center where they’re receiving care, their treatment in an outpatient program may include individual and/or group sessions.

What Disorders Do Luxury Mental Health Centers Treat?

Generally speaking, luxury mental health treatment centers are prepared to address the same types of disorders that standard programs do. While some luxury centers focus on specific disorders, most serve clients whose have been affected by a wide range of concerns, such as:

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Schizophrenia
  • Schizoaffective disorder
  • Eating disorders
  • Complicated grief
  • Self-harm
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Dual diagnosis (mental illness and co-occurring addiction)

Which Therapies Are Included in Luxury Mental Health Treatment?

The types of therapies and support services that clients receive can vary from one treatment center to the next. At our luxury mental health treatment center in Tennessee, options include:

  • Individual psychotherapy
  • Group therapy sessions
  • Family therapy and education
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Dialectical behavior therapy
  • EMDR and other types of trauma therapy
  • Equine therapy
  • Spravato treatment

We also offer a variety of holistic therapies, including:

  • Biofeedback therapy
  • Biosound therapy
  • Red light therapy
  • Mindfulness-based yoga
  • Art therapy
  • Music therapy
  • Float tank therapy

Personalized care is a hallmark of treatment at reputable luxury treatment centers. This means that different clients may receive different services depending on factors such as:

  • Which mental health disorder or disorders they have been living with
  • The type and severity of the symptoms they’ve been experiencing
  • If they have a co-occurring substance use disorder (addiction)
  • How long they’ve been struggling with these conditions
  • The impact that their mental health struggles have had on their life

There is rarely only one “correct” way to treat a mental health disorder. What’s most important is fully assessing each client’s unique needs, then developing a truly customized plan just for them.

How Do I Know if Luxury Mental Health Treatment Is Right for Me?

The best way to determine if luxury treatment is right for you is to contact the centers you’re considering. Whether you are visiting the center in person or speaking to a representative on the phone, the following questions can help you decide if it’s the best place for you:

  • What levels of care does the center offer?
  • What therapies and support services to they provide?
  • How will they determine which programs, therapies, and support services are best for you?
  • What are the qualifications of the professionals who will be providing your care?
  • Does the center provide family therapy and support?
  • Do they offer experiential and/or holistic services?
  • What is the typical length of stay at the center?
  • How will they determine how long you should remain in treatment?
  • Do they provide discharge planning services and/or aftercare support?
  • Can you view patient rooms, treatment areas, and other parts of the center in person or via an online tour?
  • Does the center accept your insurance?

Remember: There’s no such thing as a perfect treatment program that’s right for everyone. Your goal should be to find the center that feels like the best fit for you.
